William Thompson, Jr., was born in Hopewell Twp., Cumberland Co. (nowFranklin Co.), Pennsylvania. About 1784 he moved to Centre Co.,Pennsylvania (then Huntingdon Co.), where he had acquired 180 acres ofland through "Squatter's Rights." This transaction is recorded atBellefonte, Pennsylvania, Book F, p. 438. He named the place "TadpoleFarm." It was located 2 miles west of Pine Grove Mills. In 1820, thefarm was sold to a Jack Thompson from Bald Eagle Valley. The farm now isowned by J.M. Campbell of State College, his son Charles the resident(1937). William Thompson, Jr., lived to a ripe old age--over 90years--the latter years with his son, Elijah. He was probably buried onTadpole Farm. Native stones are said to have marked the spot.
