John L Bass was reared in Tennessee where he married Elizabeth McLamore,a native of Virginia, but of irish decent. After the birth of theirfirst child, He moved to Illinois and remained in Wabash Co. Heparticipated in the Black Hawk War and a man of considerable bravery.
In the fall of 1831, He came to Lawrence Co., Il and located in LukinTwp, where he bought 160 acres of land freom the government at$1.25/acre. Half of which was timber and half prairie. He cleared andplaced his land under cultivation. On his land, he built a log house inwhich he lived until 1856. He then built a frame house where he liveduntil his death at the age of 74.
He was prob. a member of the Baptist Church. And of french decent. Oneof the pioneers of Lukin Twp, Lawrence Co., Il.
